Are you preparing for the Digital Product Passport the right way - or just collecting data?

Sooner or later, you’ll have to prepare for a Digital Product Passport

Depending on your product and sector, that moment may come sooner rather than later.

You’ll gather more data about your product.
You’ll get a much clearer picture of what’s actually in it.
And you’ll need to provide information relevant to what happens to that product later in its life.

Frustrating? Maybe.

But here’s my way to look at it.

You rarely get such a good reason to stop and rethink your product.

Because once you have that information, you have something valuable:

The basis for asking better questions.

Before you simply document the status quo, ask:

  • Are all your circular options actually clear?
  • Have you compared them against each other?
  • Do you understand the dependencies and conditions behind each one?
  • And are you sure the option you’ve chosen is actually the most valuable one for your business?

If yes — great.

You’ve done more than prepare for compliance.

If not, use the timing.

You already have the data.
You already have the internal momentum.
And you’re going to invest the effort anyway.

So why use it only to satisfy the requirement?

Turn DPP preparation into a strategic look at your product’s future

Because you’re going to pay the cost of collecting and structuring the data either way.

The real question is whether you also collect the return on it.

Which end-of-life approach does your product currently default to?

And has anyone actually checked whether it’s the best one?

The “3 questions, 1 direction” check on the MIDORI360 homepage is a simple way to start.
